In April of 2017, I traveled to our office in Taipei, Taiwan to deliver Web Application Security Awareness Training as well as general Information Security Training.
In the spring of 2016, Becky accompanied me to both Vienna, Austria and Stockholm, Sweden.
Once again, I was delivering Web Application Security Awareness Training to both our Vienna and Stockholm offices.
Of all the offices we support, these are by far my two favorites - both for the beautiful cities to explore but more importantly the great teams that support the company.
Always great to see my Europe-based coworkers and spend some time with these teams.
2015 was a busy year for work travel as next-up in June was a visit to our office in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
Becky accompanied me on this trip as she'd never been to Victoria before. I absolutely love the Inner Harbour area. We spent evenings walking along the harbour park.
During our trip, we also visited both Butchart Gardens and Fort Todd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site.
Finally, we headed to Köln, Germany for our last stop. The highlight in Köln is visiting Kölner Dom (Dom Cathedral) and just wandering around the city itself. At night, I like to cross the Rhein and marvel at Dom. Incredible sight!
For Leg 2, we flew out of Shannon, Ireland bound for London for the weekend. Next-up was a visit to our office in Maidenhead, about 30 minutes outside of London. While I had previously spent nearly 3 months in England back in my USAF days, this was my first trip to London. Thanks to the boss being an exceptional tour guide, I really was able to soak in a lot of this incredible city!
While in Maidenhead, we even broke away one evening after work and spent time in Windsor. Windsor Castle was quite a site. Dinner in town then back to the hotel.
In April 2015, Leg 1 of the European Roadtrip started out In Ennis, Ireland. I was here for 4 days delivering my Web Application Security Awareness Training to our Shannon, Ireland office. While in Ireland, I took a tour of The Burren. The highlight of this tour was a stop at The Cliffs of Moher. Magnificent views from atop the O'Brien Tower!
My third visit to my all-time favorite work destination: Stockholm, Sweden. I have made so many friends in this office - friendships that extend outside of the office. Rasmus and I have gone on a photo walk of Gamla Stan (Stockholm Old Town) as well as an excursion via boat deep into the Swedish Archipelago.
But on this trip, I would meet Becky at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. She would have been on an all-night trip that originated in Minnesota and took her to Boston and then arriving the next morning in Amsterdam.
We'd fly together from Amsterdam to Stockholm, Sweden, where'd we'd spend the next 4 nights. One of the highlights of this trip was visiting the Vasamuseet (Vasa Museum).
The Vasa Museum displays the only almost fully intact 17th century ship that has ever been salvaged, the 64-gun warship Vasa that sank on her maiden voyage in 1628. Incredible detail all over this ship. Amazing that it survived after so many years under water.
Since I was in Vienna over a weekend, I opted to explore a little further out and took another day trip - this time I set my destination as Budapest, Hungary.
My knowledge of this city was very low so the anticipation was high. Budapest did not disappoint and our driver/guide was excellent. He added so many important details and allowed us plenty of time to explore parts of this beautiful city.
While in Vienna for work, I took a day trip with a local tour company to Salzburg, Austria. I really wanted to check out this historic and culturally important city. Growing up, I remember this city from "The Sound of Music" but more importantly, as the birthplace of Mozart.
My 2014 European Roadtrip started in Vienna, Austria. I really love walking around this city during the day but the magic happens at night.
